On Monday, May 18, 2026, one of the world’s most unique individuals passed away. A Calgary, Alberta native, Rowan Redvers Clark McClave was born on September 9, 1995. He was just 30 years old when he suddenly left this world, but his humor, love for family, and willingness to use his personal hardships to help others have left their mark on all who knew and loved him.
Rowan’s ability to make anyone feel a sense of joy and laughter easily brought many friends into his life. As a child, his favorite pastimes included hanging out with his brother and friends from the neighborhood, lighting fireworks, climbing trees, and playing airsoft. From the moment Rowan’s younger brother Lachlan (Lockie) was born, they were best friends who did most everything together. As the older brother, Rowan of course took the lead in their adventures, whether it was riding ATVs, giving Lockie advice, or helping him answer life’s questions.
Rowan loved pickles, chickens, jets, and the Clark family goose recipe. The geese were provided by none other than Granddad Clark, Rowan, his brother Lockie, and the other grandkids (never store-bought!). He also loved going to the ocean with his mom and brother, where he and Lockie would play in the waves for hours.
Rowan was naturally athletic, participating in gymnastics and excelling at sports such as snowboarding and squash. He went on to attend the University of Hawaii and the University of San Francisco, and while living in Burnaby, BC, had developed an interest in law enforcement.
To all who knew him, Rowan was both friend and jokester who could turn any situation into a funny story or character. The combination of his intelligence and quick wit would leave everyone in tears - in a good way. Rowan was also empathetic and caring, often drawing in and befriending those who felt they were stuck on the fringes of groups or society. He shared of his own personal struggles to help others, using both experience and humor to get through tough times. Rowan will be remembered for the meaningful connections he made throughout his life.
Rowan is survived by several members of his loving family; his mother, Jill Clark of Calgary, Alberta; his father and stepmother, Brandon and Amy McClave of Eastanollee, Georgia; his brother, Lachlan McClave of Calgary, Alberta; grandparents William “Bill” Clark and Margaret “Peggy” (Rood) Clark of Calgary, Alberta; grandmother Wendy Wharton of Vashon, Washington; and grandparents Fred Cole and Barbara Richards of Boulder, Colorado. Rowan will also be missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.
A celebration of life was held on May 31, 2026.
