‘Jake’ – ‘Greek God’ – ‘Legend!’
Sunrise: October 27, 1936 – Sunset: August 14, 2025
It is with deep sadness we share the passing of our dear elder Russell Jacobs Sr. on August 14, 2025. Russell was born at St. Paul’s Hospital on October 27, 1936, to his late parents Lena (nee: Band) and Alfred Jacobs. He grew up in Siyi7ch’em (Seachim Indian Reserve IR # 16), Squamish,BC. He attended Sechelt Indian Residential School, and North Van High. He went to the docks and joined ILWU local 500 for 12 years, then transferred over to Local 514 until his retirement, 48 years of service for the longshoremen. Russell worked hard to provide for his family. He travelled all over the world. He enjoyed cruises with his wife Chreanne. He played and coached many sports lacrosse, soccer, softball, and canoe pulling. He ran the Tournament of Chiefs, and the Clifford Paul Memorial tournaments. Russell was well respected in the community; he was always dressed up. He dedicated his life to his family. He was the kind of man who genuinely valued love and time. He made you feel like the most important person in the world when you were with him. Russell will best be remembered for his larger-than-life personality. His family fondly remembers him as their hero.
Russell will be dearly missed by wife Chreanne Jean Jacobs-McLean; children Johnny Lance Jacobs, Sherrie Leah Marie Jacobs(Robert); grandchildren Damara Jacobs-Petersen(Ryan), Marion Jacobs, Elizabeth Marion Jacobs(Brandon), Russell George Gilbert Thomas Jacobs, Brian John Jacobs, Grant Vincent Lewis Jacobs, Rachel Ann Jacobs, Hailey Rose Manalo(James), Brodie Jacobs, Rhiannon Danielle Jacobs, Kyle Alexander Johnny, great grandchildren Kathleen Eileen Marion Elizabeth Nahanee-Jacobs, Genesee Dove Nahanee-Jacobs, Dimitri Joseph Allen Nahanee-Jacobs, Kamryn Jacobs, Meah Jacobs, Konnor Jacobs, Leahm Grant Jacobs, Mason Jacobs, Thomas Jacobs, Mahalia Manalo, Makoa Manalo, Thomas Edward Godrey Ryan Jacobs III; siblings George Peter Jacobs Sr., Sharon Olive Mary Schorneck, Chief Gilbert Joseph Jacob (Vivian), special children Lori Given, Krisandra Jacobs, April Lindley, Vi LeBourdais, Brian Merriweather, Willard Johnny and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
Our late father loved our people and dedicated his earlier life to playing, coaching & supporting all sports. He dedicated his working life to ILWU 500, ILWU 514 (Foremen). There are many workers from Seaboard Terminal that loved and respected Dad as many of his 48 years of service were worked there. We were constantly amazed by everything he accomplished during his lifetime. Above all else, he was a ‘gentleman’ and had a way of making everyone feel special with just a smile. Dad was most happy to share his time and knowledge to any that were interested. Dad had several serious health conditions congenital heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with asbestos on the lung, and diabetes. Dad fought valiantly to stay with his family as long as he could. We would like to thank Lions Gate Hospital staff and all the nurses of the 5South Paul Meyers, 5East Rehabilitative Services who helped him on his spirit journey in a dignified and respected manner. Their kindness and support were greatly appreciated by our family. We thank everyone who loved and respected our Dad and we know our ancestors are rejoicing on being reunited.
