It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sit Yong Yip on September 17, 2026, at the age of 95.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Chuen Yung Yip; his five children, Katy Yee (the late Tom), Lily Sum (Michael), Marie Chow (Bobby), Daniel Yip (Joey), and Herrick Yip (Irene); his grandchildren, Geraldine Yee (Andre), Joanie Dy (Stanley), Warren Yee (Yuki), Carley Sum, Chantelle Chow, Jordan Chow, Brendan Sum, Nicolas Yip, and Finley Yip; and his great-grandchildren, Kai Dy, Liam Yee, and Kalen Dy.
Sit Yong was born in Panyu, Guangdong, China, in 1931. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 and built a life in British Columbia through hard work, perseverance, and entrepreneurship. Over the years, he worked in various occupations and successfully ran several businesses.
He was a proud member of the Yue Shan Society and the Oi Quang Society in Vancouver’s Chinatown, maintaining strong connections to his community and cultural heritage.
Sit Yong was known for his selfless nature, optimism, generosity, and infectious laughter. He was a caring and empathetic person who genuinely wanted the best for everyone around him. A true perfectionist, he took great pride in doing things properly and encouraged those around him to strive for their very best. His encouragement came from a place of love and care, and he was always willing to offer guidance, support, and a helping hand. A devoted family man, his warmth, humour, and positive outlook brought joy to those around him.
His family will forever cherish his wisdom, encouragement, stories, and laughter, as well as the many memories they shared together.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
