Spyridon Raftopoulos

Spyridon Raftopoulos was born on May 3, 1939 to Marousa and Panagiotis Raftopoulos. He was born on the island of Aegina in Greece. Spyro attended Technical School in Greece and became an Electrician. He then married the love of his life, Smaro, on July 28, 1963, and remained happily married for 51 years.

They had two beautiful daughters, Maria born in 1964 and Helen in 1967. They came to Canada in 1971.

In Vancouver Spyro worked at Good Host for 20 years and then left to work at Granville Island CMHC for another 20 years until he retired in 2004.

He was a passionate man and loved all his friends and co-workers.

Spyro was an extremely loving and patient person and he was so proud of his two daughters Maria and Eleni.

In 1996 Maria married Yiannis and he gained son in law whom he concidered and loved as his own.

In 2004 he was blessed with a grandson Sebastian whom he cherished and his wish was to see him on his graduation but unfortunately didn't make it, but I know when the time comes he will be there in spirit. His grandson and his family meant the world to him.

In 2007 he was diagnosed with bone cancer and he suffered for 8 ½ years.. Spyro kept strong and fought for his life, in actuality he fought for his Wife and family, but it eventually his body couldn't take it anymore.

In his leisure time he enjoyed travelling with his best friend and Wife, Smaro. They travelled by car because he was afraid of airplanes. Together they toured the States and Canada, he really enjoyed stopping in different places and valued their time together.

His number one - was his wife and family.

He also will be deeply missed by his sister in law Demetra and his nephews Terry and Paul and his niece Maria. Who also thought of him as a father figure.

A quality man, honest, witty and one of a kind - loved by all. His smile and laugh was admired by all. Even on the toughest days he would try and make you smile and laugh.

Spyro died peacefully in his home on Tuesday January 27, 2015.

He will be eternally missed and in our thoughts and hearts forever.
