In Loving Memory of Theodoros Gnissios
It is with profound shock and heavy hearts that the family of Theodoros (Theo) Gnissios announces his sudden passing on September 26, 2026, at the age of 70.
Born in Greece in 1956, Theo was a lifelong resident of Vancouver. From an early age, he brought immense light, laughter, and warmth to everyone around him. He was a loving son, a devoted brother, a loyal friend, and a steady presence whose sudden absence leaves an unfillable void in our hearts.
During his life, Theo pursued a career in the restaurant business, becoming a successful chef. Later on, he also pursued a successful career in auto sales, but his true passion was always cooking. He loved to cook for family and friends alike and was known for showing up with baklava or galaktoboureko to wherever he was invited. Theo was well known for his generosity, his kindness and the love of his lifelong friends. Theo called them his “brothers” and they did the same for Theo. As Theo did not marry, he chose to “adopt” all of his family’s and friends’ children and treat them as his own. He was especially fond of Eva’s twin boys, Joseph and Phillip and often told them that he thought of them as his own children. Beyond his work, he loved hunting and fishing. Theo had a true passion for fishing and there were many BIG fish that actually didn’t get away! He loved to share the fish he caught with his family and friends and, lucky for him, there were actual pictures showing the BIG fish that he actually did catch! Theo’s love of his family and friends was well known, and he touched the lives of many people.
Theo was also well known for his sense of humour, whether it was telling non-stop jokes, or pulling pranks on those around him. He also loved to tell tall tales, (or better known as “embellishing the truth”), to further amuse his family and friends. His stories were legendary and we all enjoyed them!
He is survived by his loving siblings, Eva (Vasili) and Tess, as well as his nephews Joseph, Phillip (Lital), Elliot, and his niece Leah, as well as their families, together with the many cousins in Vancouver and Greece. He is predeceased by his father Joseph and his mother Ioanna. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family, and wide circle of friends.
We would like to extend our deep gratitude to the amazing doctors and nurses who took great care of Theo in the ICU of Vancouver General Hospital.
We hold him close within our hearts, and there he will remain, deeply loved and forever missed.
Theodoros will be honoured at the Funeral Service at St. George's Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4500 Arbutus St, Vancouver, BC V6J 4A2, CA, on October 16, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
A Committal Service will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby, BC V5G 4A9, CA, on October 16, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
