Thomas John Wood

Nov 26, 1940 – February 11, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Wood at the UBC Hospital.

John was predeceased by his father Dr. Lorne Wood, mother Olga (Hryniak), and younger brother Eric Wood. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth (John Kemp) Toronto, brother Peter (Marg Hurley) Ottawa, nephew Alex Wood (Meg Crouch) of Brooklyn NY and niece Emily Wood San Francisco, CA

John attended Magee Secondary School and graduated from UBC in 1963 with a Bachelor of Commerce. After obtaining his Chartered Accountancy in 1969 John practised public accounting in Montreal with Samson Belair prior to joining the public service of the Canadian Government. In 1978 he joined the Canadian Revenue Agency as an auditor first in Montreal and then in Calgary in 1996. After his retirement John moved to Vancouver.

John was interested in antique cars, volunteered with the Vancouver Historical Society and enjoyed walks through the residential neighbourhoods of old Shaughnessy Heights. John will be sadly missed by his family and his friends in Montreal and Calgary.

The family would like to thank Sean McDonald, a family friend who helped John in many ways over the past two months and the staff at VGH and UBC Hospitals for their thoughtful care. Cremation has taken place. Interment of the urn will take place in August 2022.
