It is with great sadness that the Mah family announce the passing of their beloved husband, father and grandfather, Tung On Mah of Vancouver, BC. He was born on July 9, 1930 in Canton, China and passed away peacefully at Burnaby Hospital on October 13, 2022 at the age of 92.
He was 20 when he arrived in Canada where he later met and married his loving wife, Sau Guen and started a family. He was very proud of his wife and their 5 children: Edward (Penny), Vivian, Veda (Larry), Linda (Roy) and Sonny (Julia). He adored his 11 grandchildren: Stacy, Nicole, Michelle, Michael, Kevin, Kimberly, Mitchell, Sara, Faith, Amber and Ashley. He is predeceased by daughter-in-law Penny Mah and son-in-law Roy Blokhuizen.
Following his work with Canadian National Railways and the Hillcrest Lumber Mill, Tung On decided to venture into a business on his own in Lake Cowichan. He started Mah On Grocery & Chinese Food Take Out from the ground up. It was a family-operated business from 1968-1987, after which Tung On and Sau Guen moved to Vancouver to enjoy their well-deserved retirement.
Tung On dedicated much of his time to the Chinese Freemasons and the Mah Society.
He loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed cooking, gardening, woodworking, and travelling.
