Wing Ning Cheung, 75, of Vancouver, British Columbia, passed away on September 19, 2020.
Wing was born to Sheung Ng and Chun Gee Cheung on January 23, 1945, in Loon Kong Village, Kaiping, China. The Cheung family immigrated to Canada in 1964 and established themselves in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Wing married Lucia Kit-Fong Kwan in 1969. They had been childhood friends in China. Wing and Lucia moved to Oshawa, Ontario and then lived in Campbellford, Ontario for over 30 years, where they raised their family and were the proud owners of the Royal Cafe and other small businesses. In 2005, they retired and moved to the West Coast.
Wing is survived by his wife, Lucia, his children, Colleen (Jonathan), Carmen (Steven) and Carole (Michael), and his grandchildren, Jake, Nick and Alina. Wing is also survived by his siblings, Tom (Connie), Kong (Kathy), Jane (Vern) and Linda, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Wing was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ken.
Wing was always dreaming big and inspiring others to also dream big and follow one's dreams. One of his biggest accomplishments was being a loving husband, father and grandfather. His daughters considered their "Baba" to be a hard worker, determined and a strong role model. Even as adults, they still see him that way. He was always there for them through their ups and downs, and taught them to enjoy every moment that life has to offer. Wing's grandchildren doted on their "Gong Gong", enjoyed spending time with him, and they will miss growing up with him and learning from him. He always encouraged and supported his grandkid’s interests and passions being their biggest fan. Wing also enjoyed playing pool, fishing, boating, genealogy and spending time with his family. He spent many hours doing home renovations at the family home in Campbellford that he and Lucia purchased in 1987 and converted from a dairy. Many extended family members enjoyed summer visits with the Cheungs on the Trent River.
A private interment service will occur at Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver, with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.
The family requests that family and friends make donations in support of Richmond Hospital Foundation (BC) in lieu of sending flowers.
