

Lewis Cox, 86, of Vancouver, passed away November 12, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Leesburg, Ohio January 9, 1928 to Jesse and Rosa Cox.
Lewis joined the Army during WWII in order to serve his country, spending that time stationed in Germany. He chose to make the Army a 31 year career, retiring in 1976 as a 1st Sergeant. During his career, he became a veteran of WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars, serving 4 tours of duty in Vietnam. He received 8 medals of Honor for his service, including the Bronze Star. He loved gardening, planting trees, and being surrounded by his family. He was our country’s hero; he was our family’s HERO and will be dearly missed.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 47 years, Violet; children, Debbie Casper of Vancouver, William (Diane) Buckingham of Springfield, OR, Carol Skucas of Ridgefield, WA, Cindy (Dennis) Glavin of Vancouver, WA; Mendy (Thad) Hillman of Hines, OR, and sister, Mildred Burns of Dayton, OH; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, plus, many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by daughter, Elizabeth Oremus; parents, Jesse and Rosa Cox; and siblings, Chester Cox, Glenn Cox, Audrey Swiney, Wanda Turner, Dorothy Robinett and Thelma Knisley.
A service will be held for Lewis 12:00pm, Friday, December 5th at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, Oregon.
