Dear Grandpa,

I have fond memories of our time together.  You were my gentle giant I looked up to as a young boy and as I grew up and matured into a man.  I respected, admired, and learned a lot just by watching you grandpa. Most of all how to love and show love without having to say it...we just know it and felt it.  Ways I've learned to love in my life. Thank you! The love and caring of your wife, and our grandma Evelyn, was something special. A relationship to admire and learn from that just isn't as common in today's hustle and bustle.  Thank you! We all know how hard her loss was on you.  It hurt us in itself when she left. Knowing how it would takes it's toll on you grandpa...her loss hurt even more. The other love I learned by watching you grandpa was the love to have for family, friends, and just being together! At our family gatherings I could always count on seeing you light up like fireworks and with hugs all around when we arrived, any new guest arrived, and the joy you had in watching all your family, grandkids, and friends together. The kids and the grandkids grew up...people went their ways...some families dissolved...however we still got together when we could.  I loved watching the life and sparkle in your eyes that my son, your great-grandson Chase, seemed to re-energize you with!  The same energy I remembered as a young boy.  Chase loved that and he loved you too! As an adult I honor and respect the larger than life challenging decisions you had to make for your family when you were a young man. Thank you for that as well!  Wouldn't have wanted it any other way grandpa. You were the best!

May you rest in peace now grandpa as you reunite with the love of your life.

Dear Dad,
I miss those countless hours we spent together this past year, watching TV or sitting quietly reading. The usual TV show was Gun Smoke and Bonanza.  I still see that great smile and hear that infectious laugh when Hoss or Little Joe were up to no good. We had those daily visits to see Evelyn while she was still with us. You were a very devoted husband and looked forward to seeing her everyday. You also were the best co-pilot as you would say (all clear) while I drove you.

I remember the first time I met Bob. It was at a family Christmas gathering. I was with his son Chester & at that time, a girlfriend. He met us at the door, taking my coat & welcoming me. He loved having the family over for holidays & summer BBQ, as his wife Evelyn did. I remember his warm hugs & gentle smile. I sometimes joined him & Evelyn on the casino bus to gamble & have breakfast. He always had the same thing, eggs over easy :-) And I remember when he met his new great grandson Chase, and what a smile he had on his face. He would always "light up" every time he saw Chase & loved having him around.
I will always remember his warmth & will miss him.

I had the honor of knowing Bob in his later years. Seeing him at many of the family barbecues. First thing he wanted to know when he got there was "do we have baked beans?" I am told that every family event had to include "baked beans". Perhaps baked beans evoked special childhood memories for Bob. The last year was very difficult for Bob, especially after he lost the love of his life-Evelyn. She was his rock over the many years they were married.  The family members who lived in Vancouver-visited him almost daily--and he looked forward to being shaved by his daughter-in-law, Shirley. Watching his son-Tom take his Dad into the bathroom to give him a shower in that quiet-calm-gentle-loving manner was very powerful to see.  
My sympathies go out to all of the family--May Bob rest in peace with his wife Evelyn right beside him.  You see that is where he will truly rest in peace. He seemed so lost after losing her, God please grant him the final resting place he so richly deserves.  Blessings, Veronica
