As a young man, Bob left school to help provide for his family. During WWII, he was drafted into the Army, and proudly served his country as an M.P. in Manila, Philippines. After his service, he began working as a millworker for Crown-Zellerbach in Camas and spent most of his time in #1 finishing room. He spent his entire career with them until his retirement in 1982.
Bob was a member of the American Legion Post #14 and the Sons of Norway Lodge. He enjoyed volunteering with his wife, Evelyn, and daughter, Teresa, at the Sons of Norway for the monthly pancake breakfast. He made the best pancakes. Bob enjoyed gardening, playing pinochle at the Lodge, his monthly casino trips, traveling and taking long walks in his Lincoln neighborhood. Playing golf was a pure joy to him in his early retirement years.
Bob is survived by his children, Tom (Shirley) Mills, Chester (Betty) Mills, Teresa (Richard) Diedrich, Bill Mills, and Robert (Sharon Brown) Mills, Jr.; step-daughter Mary (Rich) Olmstead; grandchildren, Sam, Ryan, Cory, Tom, Jr. and Erich; and great-grandchildren, Chase and Mya. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn and son, Lawrence.
