Bernard was born Sept. 19, 1935 in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He is proceded in death by his loving wife Mollie of 51 years. Also, proceded in death by parents Louis Helmbright and Geneva (Ridgeway), and brothers Harvey and David Helmbright. He is survived by his children: Sharon Murray, Tammie Brandt, Tina Vaughn, Bernie Helmbright, Nikki Wagner, nine grandchildren and nephew Steven Duke.
After high school, Bernard worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a Brakeman, and then served as Corporal in the United States Army stationed in Germany. He was a mechanic for Immke Buick and Westerville City Schools from which he retired.
Upon retirement he relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida to be in the sunshine and near the water! He was passionate about his wife and kids. He enjoyed training horses, driving racecars and flying airplanes until his solo flight ended in a cornfield! His retirement was spent trying to “catch” the Tarpon that got away!
He was a great man, loyal friend, hard worker and as he would say, “a jack of all trades - master of none”! But to his family, he mastered everything: especially love, service, and humility.
