He was also predeceased by his brother, Everett Lee, and sisters Irene, Wanda, Dottie Lou, and Mary Louise. Darrel is survived by his wife, Merle. They had a blended family, so Darrel is survived by six children: Judith Maierhofer, Thomas VanSickle, Joan Parrish, Denise VanSickle [Kirk]-Cressley, Andrew [Audrey] Gorin, Daniel [Amy] VanSickle. He has 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Darrel was loved and respected by his family for his work ethic, wisdom, and generosity.
He loved fishing, boating, golfing, sailing, and cruising. He loved to travel and meet people. Darrel was a very calm social influence. He had a corporate sales management background, but his business success came with his Blue Diamond Pool Supply and Service in Englewood. He was an expert in pool equipment sales and service. He also was an expert plumber and electrician. He could repair just about anything.
A former son-in-law said it best, “The world was a better place with Darrel in it.”
Darrel loved wildlife and birds in particular. If you want to make a donation to the Wildlife Center of Southwest Florida it would make him smile.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.lemonbayfh.com for the Vansickle family.
A Celebration of Darrel's Life will be held on January 14, 2024 at Myakka Pines from 3-5:00 pm.
