
Donald was born in Bronx, New York, on December 29, 1933, to William E. McKenna and Margaret McKenna (Nee) Cockburn. When Donald was one year old, his family moved to the suburb of Cold Spring, NY, where he would later attend Haldane high school. Donald was well known throughout his community. He excelled in sports as part of the basketball team and later as captain of the football team. In his youth, Donald was nicknamed “Dapper” because he was so handsome. Donald’s once best friend, Philip Schatzle (1933-2020), would later marry Donald’s older sister Peggy.
After graduating from Haldane, Donald attended Dutchess Community College and would later spend 25+ years working as a system analyst for IBM. After retiring from IBM, Donald and his wife Sarah (Sadie) McKenna (1938-2014) would move to Florida, where they would spend the rest of their lives. While living in Florida, Donald was an avid golfer and gardener. He was always doing something and enjoying life.
Donald is survived by his daughter Kim Sorci, granddaughter Ashley Sorci, grandson Ayden Sorci, great-granddaughter Amelia Sorci of Englewood, FL, and granddaughter Alicia Sorci of Port St. Lucie, FL. Donald is also survived by siblings Margaret J. Schatzle and Betty Ann Shields & Patrick Shields, both of Cold Spring, NY, and youngest brother Richard McKenna & Carol McKenna of Putnam Valley, NY.
Donald is predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Sarah (Sadie) McKenna (Nee) Boyle, siblings William McKenna Jr. and Kenneth McKenna, and parents William E. McKenna and Margaret McKenna.
Donald was loved by all, and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for anyone. Donald loved his family, friends, neighbors and had a great sense of humor. He often told funny stories about growing up in Cold Spring and loved to tell his “Cold Spring/McKenna Stories.” He lived life to its fullest!
Donald was a devout catholic and a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi, Rotonda West, FL.
Donald will always be remembered for his commitment to serving others, devotion to family and friends, generosity, and being a role model for others to follow and live a blessed and selfless life.
He had many nieces and nephews that loved and adored him. Suzanne, Philip, Peggy, Patrick, Jonathan, Christopher, Kathleen, Karalyn, Alison, Cristin,Tara, Rory.
