Born on September 10, 1943, in Camden, New Jersey, Betty was the beloved daughter of the late Alfred and Elizabeth Hillman. She graduated from Camden Catholic High School in 1960 and carried her faith and values with her throughout her life.
Betty was a devoted homemaker. She was a former member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Marlton, NJ, where she taught CCD for several years. After relocating to Florida, she became a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Englewood, FL. Though she tended to keep to herself, those who truly knew her understood the depth of her many talents and wit.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—reading, baking, cooking, and sewing. Her kitchen was often filled with the smell of her famous apple cake, “killer brownies,” chocolate log, twice-baked potatoes, and Christmas cookies, treats that family and friends will never forget. Betty had a remarkable talent for sewing and could make or mend just about anything, a skill that reflected both her patience and creativity. She had a special love for the color purple, a small detail that perfectly matched her vibrant spirit. And of course, her beloved dogs always held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed the sunshine and quiet life in Florida.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, George Burfeind; her grandchildren, George P. Burfeind, Mary Burfeind, and Joseph O. Burfeind; her sisters, Barbara Carr (Patrick), Elaine Rose (the late Walt Wehling), and Janet Hillman (Mary Schramke); and her brother, Alfred Hillman. She was predeceased by her son, George A. Burfeind, and her infant daughter.
Betty will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who loved her.
