Howard O. Mack Jr., a beloved resident of North Port, Florida, passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on October 30, 1934, in New Paltz, New York, Howard lived a full, meaningful, and deeply cherished life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn Mack, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage; his daughter, Constance Andrews (Lawrence); and his sons, David Mack (Nadine) and Paul Mack (RoseMarie). Howard was also blessed with several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry on his legacy of love, integrity, and service.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Howard O. Mack Sr. and Emily Yerks Mack, as well as his sister, Barbara Vandercar.
A man dedicated to God and country, Howard honorably served in the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and Army, ultimately retiring from the Army with the distinguished rank of Sergeant Major. His commitment to service extended beyond the military; he served as a road deputy with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department, and later as a detective sergeant in the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
Howard’s faith played a central role in his life. He was a former member and Elder at Lakeside Lutheran Church in Venice and was a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Southwest Florida in Gulf Cove. His family and friends will remember him fondly for his steadfast warmth, unwavering dedication, and the genuine care he extended to all who knew him.
Howard’s life was a testament to service, love, and faith. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
