Phyllis E. Wright

Phyllis Wright, 82, passed away peacefully on October 16th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 28, 1942, in North Belmore, New York, Phyllis was a loving, dedicated mother and grandmother.

Born Phyllis Harmer to father George W Harmer and Mother Helena Boos Harmer, Phyllis grew up in Belmore New York and graduated from Mepham High School in 1961. After high school Phyllis earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Oswego State University. Phyllis was married to Bill Wright on July 10th 1965 in Hempstead, New York and then spent the next few years in Kansas and Nebraska working as a teacher and raising a family.

Phyllis and the family moved to Englewood Florida in 1972 and with husband Bill bought Howards Restaurant. Phyllis was known to manage the dining room and was especially fond of the people she worked with, the customers she served, and of the large collection of Norman Rockwell plates and memorabilia that she displayed in the dining rooms. After retiring from Howards, Phyllis became a realtor serving Englewood and surrounding communities from 1985 to 2020. Phyllis also generously gave her time to the community serving on the Englewood Water Board from 2002 to 2024 & volunteering with Meals on Wheels of Englewood.

Phyllis is survived by her children Robert E. Wright, Melissa Wright & Caroline Wright. Grandchildren Robert, Alyx, Aubrey & Lia.

Phyllis will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family. She enjoyed Travel & Cruising, Antiques, French food, cooking, art, butter, painting, bluegrass festivals, Thanksgiving, solitaire, martinis, crossword puzzles, twink-twink & Bailey(her dogs) Bud Bud(the cat), her house on Lemon Bay, friends, driving for Meals on Wheels, Englewood, and her Family. Phyllis’s legacy of love and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held at Landys On The Water on November 16th, 2024, at 3:30 pm. Those that knew Phyllis please stop by and share a last drink and memory with her and her friends.
