

Rich was born in Rochester, New York to Doris and Andrew Smahol on August 25th, 1950, and grew up with his family in Charlotte, New York. Rich graduated high school from Edison Tech in 1968.
Dick was hired by Monroe County in 1985 and became an Airport Maintenance Foreman at the Greater Rochester International Airport in 1988. He then became the Airport's Operations Supervisor from 1991-2012. He worked for the County for 27 years until his retirement in August, 2012.
Rich enjoyed working on cars, airplanes, bird-watching, playing the drums, bowling, playing softball & volleyball, hunting, watching Formula One racing and cheering for the Minnesota Vikings. He also loved building model trains, fishing & water-skiing, vacationing at Black Lake, feeding his "pet ducks", barbecuing and spending time with family, especially his grandkids.
Rich is survived by his devoted wife, Lori Reed-Smahol, his loving daughters, Nicole Fry and Jessica (Jesse) Lemboris, his son-in-law, Michael Fry, his grandchildren, Joshua and Kyra Fry, Ayden, Riley, Andrew and Avery Lemboris, his siblings, Joanne Altre, Daniel (Ann) Smahol, Susan (James) Gray and Carol (Daryl) Maslanka, his sister-in-law Halle (Charlie Price) Reed, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is pre-deceased by his father, Andrew George Smahol and his mother, Doris Harriett Russell Smahol.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made, in Rich's memory, to the Tidewell Foundation. Lori, Niki and Jessie wish to express their gratitude and appreciation for the exceptional care that Tidewell Hospice provided to Rich in his final days, as well as to the Lemon Bay Funeral Home, in Englewood, Florida for handling his arrangements.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 11th, from 1:00-4:00 PM at Whiskey River Pub & Grill, 421 River Street, Rochester, New York 14612.
