He graduated from Defiance High School in 1986 and joined the United States Naval facility in Bermuda as an Anti Submarine Warfare Ocean System Technician, Second Class Petty Officer Miller analysed the sounds of submarines cruising along the United States coastlines.
After his discharge from the Navy he attended Bowling Green State University and graduated from the Ohio Fire Academy in 1994, as a Firefighter I/II and EMT-A. While at BGSU he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Thomas is survived by his mother and step father Linda (Tim) DeTray of Defiance, Ohio. Two brothers, Todd (Melissa) Miller of Vicksburg, Michigan and Troy (Jennifer) Miller of Port Charlotte, Florida. He also leaves behind three nieces, one nephew and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and his maternal & paternal grandparents.
Thomas will be laid to rest in a private family service in the Veterans Section of Riverside Cemetery in Defiance, Ohio
