

Our beloved Verna M. Alt, age 97, passed away May 14th, 2026, at the Gardens of Venice, in Venice, FL. She was born May 2nd, 1929, in Morris, Indiana to the late Cecilia Reihle and late stepfather Ezra Sowder.
Verna lived an amazing and extraordinary life. She lived with her Reihle family in Indiana and graduated with honors from Shortridge High School. She also received Deans List honors for her Real Estate license. She was married to Frank D Alt for twenty-five years, during which time she lived in France, Italy, and Germany. She enjoyed membership with the International Wandering Club, International Ski Club, Heidelberg Officers Wives Club, and PTSA. She traveled the world, most notably Europe, Middle East and Asia and enjoyed special events such as Indy 500, Kentucky Derby, 1972 Olympics, and Christmas Eve in Bethlehem. She was the secretary to an Army General, receiving many awards for her contributions.
After 35 years in Europe, she retired to Venice, FL continuing an active life with her sweetheart George Provencher. She also enjoyed years of treasured friendship with the ladies of L’Pavia, babysitting her grandsons and fur babies, traveling and spending time with her daughters and special lunches with her cherished granddaughter. She enjoyed good wine and food, dancing, walking, and playing cards.
She is survived by her daughters, Melita Ballard, Lorraine Blades and spouse Jim Blades, granddaughter Jacqui Patton and spouse David Patton and grandsons Jackson and Dalton Patton.
She lived a wonderful life and will be missed by many.
