Anita passed away January 20, 2019 at the age of 94. She was born on the family farm on Cabbage Ridge in Eitzan, Minnesota in 1924 and moved to Ventura in 1944 after marrying David Lorenzana. Her husband David, loving parents Walter and Beata, and brothers Arlin and Leon preceded her in death.
While raising three children, she worked at Ventura College from 1954 to 1989 in the records office. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ventura for over 70 years where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Anita was also a long time member and historian of the Gold Coast Community Chorus and was a past member of the Happy Hatters by the Sea. Traveling around the world became a passion throughout her life. She was an avid reader, a collector of recipes, created quilts, loved her cats, and so enjoyed tending her garden.
Her friends surely knew of the strength of her character and the depth of her convictions. Anita had an independent spirit and a mind of her own. We could always count on her to be pragmatic and direct, while still being generous and patient.
She is the beloved mother of Steve (Rose) Lorenzana of Oxnard, Claudia (Dr. Steve) Richardson of North Bend, Oregon, and Cynthia (Doug) Sassen of Ventura, supportive grandmother to 9 grandchildren, and the loving great grandmother to 18 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express grateful thanks to Buena Vista Hospice, nurses Tania and Erica, caregivers Chiqui and Myla, and Deacon Eric Mettala of First Lutheran Church for their care and support.
A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church, 78 Chrisman Avenue, Ventura, on Saturday, February 2nd at 10:00A.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to American Macular Degeneration Foundation, to First Lutheran Church or to the Humane Society.
