Bev (as her friends called her) was born on the Klamath Reservation in the town of Chiloquin, Oregon on December 10, 1934 to parents W. Henry and Essie Fernimen. They already had one daughter Nina Sue who was eight years older than Beverly. The family moved to Klamath Falls where Beverly grew up and went to school through High School at Klamath Union High. She then moved to Eugene where she went to Oregon State University for the next year and a half. At that time she met Robert (Bob) Newport who she fell in love with and married not long after. They moved to Ashland where they both worked, her for a doctor and Bob for JC Penney’s, and in 1958 they had their son Todd as they were moving to Portland Oregon. Two years later their daughter Tracey was born. About a year later they moved to back to Klamath Falls as Bob was transferred with Penney’s. Bev did not go back to work until Tracey was old enough to start school. She then worked at the same elementary school that Todd and Tracey attended (Altamont) at first as a Teacher’s Aid and later as the School Secretary.
In 1969 Bob was again transferred, this time to Ventura California, so the family moved again. Beverly got a job working at the Ventura County Hospital at first as a Secretary and later supporting the Medical Education Program where young doctors would continue their education in the residency program. In this job she excelled and effected so many doctors and their families. In the mid 80’s she and Bob divorced and she focused her time on work, pursuing her love of following the Dodgers, travel, and being a great mother/grandmother to her two children and their families. She also cared for both her mother and father until their deaths as they had moved to Ventura to be closer to her. She retired from the County Hospital in 2000 and continued to have fun and share time with both her kids. Tracey in Ventura and Todd in Arizona. She developed Alzheimer’s as her mother had and tried the best she could to be self-sufficient. As years past, Todd and Tracey had to make the tough decision to place her in a care facility in 2011. It was a very nice place where she was cared for until the end.
Beverly had no enemies or even anyone who slightly disliked her as she was always pleasant and kind to all. She positively affected countless friends and family alike. Her impact on this world will always be felt and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She passed on 3/12/15 at the age of 80 in Ventura, California. She is survived by her children Todd (and Kathy) Newport and Tracey (and Barry) Walters, her grandchildren Evan & Nolan Rodarte and Cody & Connor Newport. Her parents and sister preceded her in death.
