Blake Maximillian Holler, 50, left this world Sunday, October 16, 2011 after over a yearlong battle, fighting cancer. Blake was born July 25, 1961 in Hackensack, New Jersey. His family moved to California where he graduated in 1979 from University High School in Los Angeles. He went on to get his Bachelor of Arts degree from U.C.L.A. in 1983 and his law degree in 1987 from Southwestern Law School, in Los Angeles.
Blake worked as an attorney in private practice up until the time of his illness. Before coming to Ventura a year and a half ago, he was a resident of Stevenson Ranch, California for twenty years. He enjoyed traveling, reading, target shooting, Poker, golf, cigars, BBQing, camping, chess, and coaching youth sports. He especially treasured time spent with his four sons. Blake lived his life with absolute love and dedication to brotherhood; which he cherished in his friends, his fraternity brothers, and instilled that same sense of honor in his sons.
Blake was preceded in death by his parents Edna and Frank Holler. He is survived by Debbie Holler, his wife since May of 2010, and sons: Blake M. Holler, II of College Station, Texas; Conor S. Holler, Aiden A. Holler and Donavan S. Holler, all three of Santa Monica, California.
Blake’s favorite poem sums up how he lived his life:
Do not go gentle into that good night
by Dylan Thomas
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
