Charlotte Diane “Dee” Stevens passed away April 4, 2015, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born to Albert and Norma Harris on September 11, 1950, in Whittier. Dee was raised in Ojai, graduated from Nordhoff High School in 1968 and received her B.A. from Whittier College in 1972.
She was a loving, hard-working, loyal person who cherished her family and friends. As a dedicated preschool teacher, Dee was passionate about her work and well-loved by both her students and co-workers. She enjoyed music, gardening, the beach, animals, movies, reading, and getting together with friends for “Bunko” night or movie. An example of her adventurous spirit was cruising and living in a sailboat in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico for nine years with her husband David. Most of all, Dee was a dedicated and loving mother to her precious daughter April Stevens, who was the light of her life.
Dee was preceded in death by her brother Glenn and mother Norma Harris. She is survived by her daughter April Stevens and grandson Jesse Stevens of Camarillo; father Albert Harris and step mother Rosa Lee Measures, of La Quinta; brother and sister-in-law Dr. Wyatt and Claudia Harris, of Ojai; sister, Dena B. Slifer of Santa Fe, NM; aunts and uncles, Robert and Peggy Schotz, of Avila Beach, and Stan and Barbara Olson, of Brea; step brother and sister Nicholas Measures and Tami Quam; nieces, Anna, Erica and Rebecca Harris; ex-husband David Stevens of Camarillo and numerous cousins. Dee will be dearly missed by all her friends and family.
Special gratitude is given to all her caregivers and Deirdre Daly at Autumn Years of Oak View, who were loving, compassionate and took extraordinary care of Dee in her last years, and to Carol McCormick of Livingston Memorial Hospice for her compassion and support during Dee’s final months. Heartfelt thanks to all the many friends and family who provided love and support to Dee during this journey.
A celebration of Dee’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association are appreciated
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura..
