Daniel Bec

Daniel was born on March 29, 1938 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to Stanislau and Honorata Bec. He worked with Varig Airlines in Sao Paulo, Brazil before going to work for his uncle in Erichim, RS, Brazil, where he met his wife, Helena Fabrizzio, at a fair in 1966. After a ride on the ferris wheel on the last day of the fair, the two dated for three years before their marriage on December 13, 1969.

Daniel came to the United States in 1968, originally landing in Camden, New Jersey before settling in the San Fernando Valley a short time later. He worked for General Electric in North Hollywood for 20 years. His daughter, Fabiana, was born in 1975. After living in Reseda for many years, Daniel and Helena briefly lived in Colorado Springs before returning to live in Northridge until last year.

To say that Daniel loved soccer would be an understatement. He celebrated with his countrymen as the Brazil national team raised the world cup trophy five times. He was also a great fan of the Gremio soccer club from his hometown of Porto Alegre.

His love of soccer was eclipsed only by his love of family. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Helena; daughter and son-in-law, Fabiana and Robin Hester; and his 6 month old granddaughter Leila Elizabeth Hester, all in Ventura. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lidia and Bruno Jung of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Lucia and Roberto Viveros of Orlando, FL; four nephews, Felipe and Roger Jung of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Richard Viveros of Orlando, FL, and David Viveros of Orem, UT.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Ventura Family YMCA, 3760 Telegraph Road, Ventura, CA 93003. Please indicate that the donation is a memorial gift for Daniel Bec and the funds will be used for scholarships for youth soccer programs so that children can have the opportunity to learn to love the game that brought Daniel so much joy.

A Celebration of Daniel’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013, 2:00 pm, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, with a reception following.
