Ethel June Rothstein passed away peacefully on August 8, 2011, at the age of 92. Ethel’s husband Harold died in 1959, leaving Ethel a widow for over 50 years. Ethel was born in Los Angeles in 1919 to Abraham and Rose Meripol, and lived there until 2000 when she moved to Camarillo and eventually relocated to Oxnard. She worked as a technical illustrator for Lockheed during World War II, then as a secretary, and eventually as an employment counselor but above all else Ethel believed her true occupation was mother to her two children Larry and Carrie.
Ethel is remembered by her adoring children, Carrie Rothstein-Fisch and Bryan Fisch of Ventura and their children, Ariana and Daniel Nobel and Jonathan Rothstein-Fisch, and her son Larry Rothstein of Newberry Park and his daughters Lauren and Michele. Her brother Bob and sister-in-laws Frankie Meripol, Shirley Rothstein, and Helen Wald also remember her lovingly as do her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Special thanks go to Dottie and Alan Fisch who provided endless food and thoughtfulness and to the entire Fisch and Furman families for their love and generosity. Ethel’s longevity is a testimony to the tender care of Dr. Jeffrey Allan of Camarillo, and the many nurses and professionals from Assisted Hospice and Country Villa, Oxnard Manor.
Services will be held at Temple Beth Torah on Thursday, August 11th, 11:30 A.M., followed by interment at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura. Tributes to Ethel Rothstein’s memory can be made to Temple Beth Torah in Ventura or any charity that benefits children or nature – the two things Ethel cherished most.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
