

John was born June 26, 1932, in Tacoma, Washington, to Jack and Dolores Georgia Myers. John attended grammar school and one year of high school in Fife, Washington. In November 1947 the family moved to Los Angeles where he attended Benjamin Franklin High School.
In 1949 John joined the United States Naval Reserve. When North Korea invaded South Korea in June of 1950 he was ordered to active duty where he attended the Naval Hospital Corps School and upon graduation served at the U.S. Hospital in San Diego. John then served the remainder of his tour of duty as a medic with the United States Marine Corps.
In 1953 John went to work for Title Insurance and Trust Company in Los Angeles. He attended college in the evenings completing the requirements for a certificate in real estate law. While at Title Insurance and Trust he served as a Title Searcher, Title Officer and then was promoted to various management positions within the company eventually being promoted to Assistant Vice President.
In 1972, wishing to remain in Ventura County, he became Vice President and Manager of Ventura County operations for Western Title Insurance Company while there he met the love of his life, Irene and after a brief courtship they married in 1974. Later John accepted a position as Manager of the Land Projects Division for Safeco Title Insurance.
John was active in many community service organizations through the years. He was named “Man of the Year” in 1970 by the 4H Club of Ventura County, served on the Board of Directors of the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce before it was incorporated as the City of Thousand Oaks, served on the board of directors as one of the founders of the Conejo Valley Trade Club, served on the Board of Directors of the Community Leaders Club of California Lutheran University and was named President of that club in 1976. John was a 20 year member of the Ventura Downtown Lions Club where he served as Chairman on various committees and as a member of that club served one year as President of the Cottage Home Foundation. John also was a member of the Building Industry Association. As a military war veteran he was a member of the American Legion Post #339 as well as a member of the Tuesday Afternoon R and A Club and a member of the University Club.
John loved his family and treasured his friends and felt blessed to be able to travel the world with his wife and dear friends.
John was a long distance and marathon runner until age 50. His interests included: boating, skiing, golfing, bowling, reading and gardening. He loved animals, nature and the sea.
John was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Dolores Myers; his brothers
Jim, George and Bill.
John is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Irene; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Ralph Aldrich of Thousand Oaks; son and daughter-in-law Todd and Mary Beth McGuire of South Lake Tahoe; sister-in-law, Beverly Myers of Burley, Idaho; sister-in-law, Mina Myers of La Crescenta; former wife, Ruth Nelson of Thousand Oaks; as well as nieces and nephews.
This tragic and brief event would have been impossible to bear without the loving care of Doctor Bruce Woodling our treasured doctor and friend.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura with The Reverend Dan Hull officiating. Interment will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura with Military Honors presented by First Memorial Honors Detail.
