Ruby Jean French, 76, passed peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was born June 21, 1935 in Kilgore, Texas to Eugene and Lilly Clark. In her youth, she resided in Ventura CA. Her first job was at the Bank of America in downtown Ventura. After her marriage, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she bought a home and was employed for many years as a key punch Data Entry operator. She moved back to Ventura County over 30 years ago, where she resided in Oak View for the remainder of her days. In 1986 she was voted Oak View Citizen of the Year for her involvement in community organizing, and the time she devoted to charitable causes. She was President of the Oak View Women’s Club for 2 years.
Ruby Jean treasured spending time with her family; and could always find time for her grandchildren and great grandchildren to read to them, color, play with clay, sew or do crafts with them. She was a talented seamstress, an adventurous cook, and loved shopping and her pup, Abby. By example, she instilled values of kindness, perseverance, creativity, and the importance of a strong work ethic in her children and grandchildren. She was known as a sweet and caring person, who was constantly thinking of ways to brighten the lives of others, but could surprise us on occasion with a wicked sense of humor.
Ruby is survived by her children; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Bradley Rabuchin of Burbank; daughter and son-in-law Melanie and Bryan Pilgrim of San Diego; and, son and daughter-in-law Brian and Kelly French of Grandview, Missouri. She was a proud grandmother to John, Katy, Alexandra and Lucas; and great grandmother of Lilly and Cain.
A visitation will held Friday, November 4, 2011 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, during which time family and friends can gather in a casual setting to share memories of Ruby Jean; and a memorial service to be held Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 2 PM. Both will be held at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, 93003.
