

It is with deep sadness that the family of Allan Stephan Kowal announces his peaceful passing on November 17, 2025, in Vernon, British Columbia. Al was born on June 17, 1939, in Jedburgh, Saskatchewan, and spent the majority of his life in Vernon, a community he loved and contributed to in countless ways.
Al is survived by his son Donnie; his grandchildren Mike(Emma), Kelsey(Will), and Shane; and his great-grandchildren Emma, Jack, and Hunter. He is also survived by his niece Sue and nephew Tom.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Olga, his beloved wife Bev; his son Greg; his daughter Diane; and his brothers Ernie and Dave.
Al was well known in Vernon for his long-standing partnership with his brother Ernie, co-owning Kowal’s Esso on 32nd, a place that became a friendly fixture in the community. Beyond his work, Al will be remembered for his lifelong passion for hockey, a sport that brought him joy, friendships, and connection throughout the years.
A celebration of Al’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Greater Vernon Minor Hockey Association, a cause close to Al’s heart.
Al’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional health care professionals at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, as well as the compassionate team at The Hamlets, where Al spent his final weeks comfortable and cared for.
Al will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
