Arthur John Movold

Leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, kindness, compassion, generosity, cherished memories and lots of good-natured teasing, the family of Arthur John Movold is deeply saddened to announce his sudden passing on August 6, 2026, in Vernon, BC. He was 91 years young.

Art was born in Kamloops, BC, on March 2, 1935, and spent his earliest years in the small mining town of Bralorne, BC. With his father Oscar, mother Margaret and brother’s Ronald and Albert, he moved to Vancouver, BC, where he attended elementary school and made many lifelong friends. The family returned to Bralorne for Art’s teens where he enjoyed playing hockey with his brothers and friends and later graduated high school.

Dad returned to Vancouver as a young man where he worked for the BC Telephone Company, Canadian Telephones and Supplies Ltd. (CT&S) and later Telus where he retired from after 38 years on the job, a job that provided a wonderful life in Vernon, BC, for his loving wife Kathy and their four children. Outside of work, Art loved to spend time with his family and cherished pets, playing sports, golfing, walking his often badly behaved dogs, exercising daily (including yoga), playing many games of cards, usually with a bet on the line, and watching his beloved sports teams on TV - the Vancouver Canucks and his college football team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Art is survived by a family who loved him deeply and will miss him dearly; his partner of 18 years, Yvonne Varner, and his very grateful children: Sheri (Mike) Curry, Chris (Leanne) Movold, Jennifer (Tyler) Quiring and Alyson (Ryan) Krause. He will be missed and remembered forever by his amazing grandchildren whom he was very proud of; Rebecca, Jesse, Jacob, Carter, Talia, Steel, Isabella, Charlie (Charlotte), Maysie (Mayson) and Cooper. Dad will also be deeply missed by his best friend Al, who he talked to weekly on the phone. Thank you, Al, for being such a special part of Dad’s life.

Sadly, Art was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, his loving and devoted wife of 26 years Kathy, and babies Andrea and Andrew.

Our family would like to express our sincere thanks to the wonderful doctors, specialists and nurses who oversaw Dad’s care and who always treated him with kindness, respect and dignity. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to the First Responders who worked tirelessly on Dad that Thursday afternoon, as well as to the members of the OKIB and Krista Lindley, who’s compassion and support has helped our family beyond words. We are so grateful to you all.

At his request, no funeral or celebration of life will be held - even in death, Dad did not want to be the centre of attention. We know, however, that he will be remembered by his friends and family with love, cherished memories and many smiles. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate on Art’s behalf to the BC Cancer Foundation, McMurtry-Baerg Cancer Centre or the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation.
