It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Bud lost his long courageous battle with cancer on October 4th, 2010. He was born in Port Alberni on January 28th, 1937. Bud will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend, Margaret, of 48 years; son, Dan (Aileen); daughter, DeAnna, and his grandsons: Anthony Peterson, Nicholas and Joseph Montgomery.
Bud and Margaret moved to Vernon in 1963 to raise their family. In 1985, they moved to Palm Springs, CA to start a new adventure. This led them to live overseas for four years on the beautiful paradise island, Vanuatu. While there, they travelled extensively to Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Hong Kong and made many lifelong friends. In 1994 they moved back to Canada, living briefly in Victoria and finally finding their way back to Vernon.
Bud was a hard working, family man. Above all else, family came first. He was his own boss building homes and installing pools. His hobby was making furniture for his family. He was a perfectionist and it showed in his work. Bud shared a love of hockey with his grandson, Anthony, who plays the game. His “Pop” never missed a practice or a game. He was Anthony’s father figure. Bud will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him.
We, the family, would like to thank Dr. Jolly who was there for the whole family. We would also like to thank Dr. Fedorchuk, the nursing staff, care aides and volunteers at Hospice for their exceptional care, kindness and dignity. We were blessed to have Tamara share her tender words of wisdom, and also blessed with the loving care of Jocelyn, Heather, Tammy, Chris, and Margaret.
Respecting Bud’s wishes, as he requested, there will be no service.
Memorial donations may be sent to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4 or to McMurtry – Baerg Cancer Centre, 2101-32nd Street, Vernon, BC V1T 5L2
May you always have work for your hands to do
May your pockets hold always a coin or two
May the sun shine bright on your window pane
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain
May the hand of a friend always be near you
Courage is what life expects for granting peace
