December 27 1944 - August 24 2018
Doreen died at St. Paul’s Hospital in the evening of August 24, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones. She was ready to move onto the next part of her journey knowing she had lived a full life. She did so in peace and without fear. Doreen was raised in Lumby and Vernon by her parents Amey and Sig Haggkvist. She was a member of the McIntosh Girls Pipe Band, a SD#22 employee for many years, loved the outdoors and genuinely loved people. She was resilient, courageous and grateful, even in the face of adversity. Doreen loved having a good laugh, a good cry and being with others.
She leaves behind her husband Barry Millar, her daughters, Stacy Fuhr (Mike Van de Sande) and Karla Fuhr. She also leaves Barry’s children Lisa McDonald (Willie), Todd Millar (Marlo), her grandchildren, Emily and Jacob Millar, and Sophia McDonald, and numerous extended family and friends.
She wanted us to thank and acknowledge the medical team that looked after her over the years. We would particularly like to acknowledge Dr. Ian Phillip, Dr. R. Sharma in Vernon, and Dr. R. Levy, Dr. M. Keiss, and Nurse Practitioner Lisa Lee in Vancouver. We are all very grateful for the exceptional care from these people and all the members of the PACH team.
There will be a celebration of Doreen’s life at the Schubert Centre on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 2pm. She lived a well-loved life and was grateful for every moment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) Association or St. Paul’s Hospital.
