Born on April 28, 1949, in Vancouver, BC, to James and Lou Plumridge, Dorie grew up on the Sechelt Inlet alongside her sister, Roni and brother Kim. Life on the inlet was special, centered around the family marina and the homes built by her father and grandfather. In 1964, the family moved to Vernon where she graduated high school. She eventually met Dad in 1971 and they later married. After a brief time in Manitoba, they put down roots in Fort Saskatchewan, AB - a move Mom always said was their "best decision." It was there that they met their lifelong friends Ken and Linda Morrow, leading to years of coffee dates and late-night card games while us kids ran wild in the basement. In 1985, our family returned to Vernon to be with our extended family. Mom worked for years for the Vernon School District as an EA and then secretary, where she truly loved working with children.
Mom was the heart of our home. She was a dedicated Brownie leader for Randi and a constant support for Jay and Derek in Scouts. She filled our childhoods with camping trips, crafts, and her own made-up car games like license plate bingo. She was amazing at making the best out of every situation, especially a good thunderstorm. Ever prepared, she taught us how to navigate life with her trademark planning and endless lists. The only list she didn’t make was one to help us write her obituary . . . We hope we’ve done her proud.
As a Grandma, her love was unmatched. She spent weeks planning camping trips for the grandkids, spent time with them whenever possible and made treasured birthday cards and quilts - each one meant to feel like a warm hug from her. She was her grandkids biggest fan and she was always so proud of them.
Mom and Dad loved camping and exploring BC and Alberta. They went on a few cruises, spent time in Arizona, made it to Mexico and even had a 3-month trip to Europe. She was always stopping at Museums and Churches to see if she could add information to her family tree. She loved working on her genealogy! Mom’s weekly "Stitch and Bitch" nights and the annual Christmas craft exchange brought her immense joy and kept her busy. Once retired, she had more time to dive deeper into quilting and scrapbooking, and she took great pride in making lap quilts for the residents of Noric House. In the past few years, she found much happiness taking her puppy, Miss Molly on walks in Vernon and riding her bike (aka Oprah) on the rail trail.
Dorie is lovingly remembered by her children: Jay (Sherry, Kaitlyn, Brayden, Madelyn); Richard (Tina, Tia [Corey, Rayla, Kyla, Talia], Tyler, Syrus, Layna [Wes, Nova]); Randi Delisimunovic (Johnny, Luka, Anica); sister Roni Anderson (Dena, Steve, Jeff), brother Kim (Sherri, Rickie), sister-in-law Heidi Howard (Dave, Jennifer, Jason); brother-in-law Volker (Sherrye, Madison), along with more family members and many dear friends. She was predeceased by our Dad, Hagen Klose, in 2022, our brother, Derek Klose, in 2005 and our cousin Troy Plumridge in 2025.
We will celebrate Mom’s life with a family event this summer. Our deepest thanks go to Dr. Friesen, the Vernon Cancer Clinic, IH Community Care, and the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VJH Cancer Clinic.
