Evan Young passed away at the age of 61 on June 1, 2018 in Vernon, BC following a courageous battle with cancer. Growing up in Victoria BC, Evan attended Oak Bay High School, UVic, and then BCIT in Vancouver. He worked and lived all around beautiful BC from Courtney and the Lower Mainland to Terrace, Williams Lake, Quesnel, Victoria, Oyama and finally, Vernon. Evan made friends everywhere he went and loved to share anecdotes and laughs over a pint or two - being mistaken for Steven Spielberg late one night was one of his best.
During his lifetime, Evan was a member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada, the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia and the Royal Canadian Legion. Evan had a passion for hockey and coached minor hockey with dedication and skill for several years. He was extensively involved in the Quesnel Millionaires Junior A hockey organization. Among his many other interests, here were a few of his favourite things: sports (all sports!), the Penguins and the Red Sox, music (especially the Blues!), golf (how about that 1997 hole-in-one!), curling, wine tours, memorable travels to Scotland, England, Arizona and always and forever, those life-is-a-highway Harley Road King road trips… Evan’s legacy helps to remind us of the importance of kindness, generosity, family and fun.
To cherish his memory, Evan is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (né Bereza), children Sean (Alyssa) and Chelsea (Gilito), sister Brenda (Philip), sister-in-law Jean (Buck), grandchildren Roman, Rodrigo and Natalia (who called him Papa), niece Leanne, nephews Tyler, Westley, Tristan and Myles, as well as many cousins, relatives, friends, colleagues and neighbours.
We hope you can join us for Evan’s Celebration of Life on September 22, 2018 from 1 to 4 pm at Oyama Community Hall, 15710 Oyama Road, Oyama BC V4V 2E1.
