With tremendous solace, we are announcing that Gloria is now at peace, having passed away on October 6, 2020.
Gloria’s family, her sons Vince and Tim (Estrella) (Ola Zuri) and his children, Gloria’s beloved grandchildren, Emilio, Amani, Ife, Ora and Ona, are missing Mom and Grandma.
Gloria is also missed by her loving sisters Deanna Gareau, Marion Tutkaluk, Valerie (Gary) Axford, her sister-in-law Mary (Szadiak) Hamm, brothers-in-law Father Frank Szadiak and Rick Colgan. Gloria is also being missed by all of her nieces and nephews, the Gareau’s: Maggie, Mike, Michelle and Matt, the Colgan’s: David, Dean and Brent, and the Olynyk’s: Rodney, Charlene, Julie, David, Barry, Kathy and Robbie.
Gloria was predeceased by her father-in-law Vincent Szadiak (February 13, 1990), her mother-in-law Mary (Boyarchuk) Szadiak (May 9, 1994), her mother Ann (Yanick) Tutkaluk (October 22, 2000), her father Mike Tutkaluk (November 17, 2000), her brother-in-law Harvey Gareau (April 26, 2008), brother-in-law Charlie Olynyk (January 18, 2015), her sister Lois (Tutkaluk) Olynyk (March 22, 2016), sister-in-law Ann (Szadiak) Colgan (January 17, 2018), her beloved husband Victor Szadiak (April 16, 2018), and her brother-in-law Mike Szadiak (February 8, 2020).
Gloria was born in Oakburn, Manitoba on February 3, 1935. She married Victor Szadiak on May 23, 1959. Together, they shared a life of making memories of all kinds, from southern Manitoba to The Pas and then Churchill and Fort Churchill in northern Manitoba, to Fort Smith, Northwest Territories and ultimately to Vernon, British Columbia with their well-deserved retirement after successful careers, mainly in civil service.
Gloria was a remarkable woman, a remarkable human being, who truly lived her life the way she wanted to live it. She loved all of it, every minute of it. Her life was a life of family, friends, faith, work, volunteering and service. Everyone who knew Gloria, and those who were fortunate to meet her, felt touched by her, enriched by her. Gloria was so engaging and she had such a positive presence. She is missed and will indeed always be missed.
Services for Gloria will take place at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home Chapel, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, BC, on Friday, October 16, 2020, with viewing from 4 pm to 6 pm, to be followed by a prayer service, beginning at 6:30 pm. Please keep in mind that COVID protocols will be in place, with respect to the safety of all those who are interested in attending.
