

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Patrick “Pat” Hagel; her parents, Bill and Pearl MacDonald; and her brothers Howard, Duncan, and Donald. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Margaret, Ann, and Trish, her grandsons Nathan (Rebecca) and Jacob, her great-grandchildren Clara and Cameron, her son-in-laws Tom and Paul, and many extended family members and friends.
Born on July 31, 1931, at Broadacres Farm in Granger Alberta, Jean treasured her childhood on the family farm and excelled in school, earning the Governor General’s Medal for highest marks among rural students in the provincial Grade 9 examinations. She went on to complete her nursing education at the University of Alberta, receiving her R.N. in 1953 and a B.Sc. in Nursing (Public Health) in 1954.
Jean dedicated her career to public health nursing throughout Alberta and the Yukon, serving communities with compassion and care. She married Pat in 1967, and together they raised their family and eventually settled in Vernon, British Columbia.
Jean will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, love of music, deep faith, and unwavering dedication to family and others.
A prayer service will be held for Jean on Wednesday, June 3rd at 6:00pm at St. James Catholic Church, Vernon, BC. Funeral Mass will be held the following day, Thursday June 4th at 10:00am at the same venue with a reception to follow.
