John Myndzak

Celebration of life September 4th Pleasant Valley Funeral Home

John Myndzak passed on July 15, 2026, at the age of 86, having been born on March 14, 1940 growing up in Notch Hill and making his forever home in Vernon, British Columbia.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Myndzak, a loving father and grandfather, a favourite fun uncle, and a man whose life was defined by hard work, dedication, and kindness.

John believed in the value of honest work and spent his career in the CUPE union, taking great pride in his role as head of maintenance at the Civic Arena. He was well known for driving the Zamboni for the Vernon Vipers, rarely missing a game or a shift. His dedication earned him the respect of his coworkers and a well-known, almost mascot-like presence in the local hockey community.

John loved hockey! Back in the days where every household only had one TV the kids knew that when dad got off work at 4 o’clock it was time for hockey. It was always time for hockey. He loved the Vernon Vipers, the Vancouver Canucks, but most of all his favourite team was the Detroit Red Wings. HE LIVED HOCKEY.

When he wasn’t working, John found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time in his garden, took pride in maintaining a beautiful lawn, and enjoyed watching all sports baseball, football, figure skating, curling and OF COURSE HOCKEY.

Above all else, John loved his family. He was a caring father and a steady presence whose wisdom and quiet strength will be deeply missed. His greatest joy was spending time with daughters Christy and Fawn and his favourite nephew Kelly taking them on yearly trips to Disneyland, West Edmonton Mall, and the PNE.

John was predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Anna Myndzak, and his three brothers Rudi and Carl Myndzak and Alec Manjak.

He leaves behind his loving daughters, Fawn Myndzak and Christy Myndzak; his cherished grandchildren, Aleeya Williamson, Rowen Williamson, Jack McColl, and Cornelius Myndzak; as well as extended family, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his presence, including those who remember seeing him ride his bike through Vernon to meet his friends for morning coffee at A&W.

Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we are grateful for the memories he gave us, the lessons he taught us, and the unconditional love he shared throughout his life.
