We’re sad to share that our amazing mom has passed away after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by our father, George, who passed away on September 20, 2024. They had been married for 68 years and had enjoyed some amazing travels together. Mom and dad chose not to have a service and instead asked that their ashes be sprinkled over Mabel Lake, where they summered for many years with friends and family. It’ll be good to know that they’ll be together again. Mom was a force to be reckoned with, always up for entertaining the neighborhood with one of dad’s specialty meals or dressing up like a saloon girl for Winter Carnival. There were always people coming and going in our home, hence the nickname ‘Grand Central Station’ as mom welcomed everyone who happened to show up. Growing up, all our friends loved her and got a kick out of her shameless ribbing and endless questions, she didn’t worry much about anyone’s privacy. Our mom kept up that spirit of quick wit to the very end, with the care aids and nurses at Creekside along with the friends that she made there. Mom was generous, caring, and had a smile that could brighten anyone’s day. She didn’t suffer fools lightly though, and those that knew her watched for the famous eye roll. Dad was an ‘engineer with itchy feet’ as he put it and through the many moves throughout BC and Alberta (14 + or -, but who’s counting), mom didn’t hesitate to start packing, and mom was always ready to make the next house a home. Our family was lucky enough to make many of the same moves with our cousins the Blielers. We have many shared fabulous memories, with both families frequently spending Christmas and Easter holidays together. Throughout her life, mom taught us to be strong, work hard, and keep going no matter what. Mom didn’t coddle us but didn’t make life any harder than it had to be either. She loved baseball, teaching her grandchildren to play cards (and as it turns out, to gamble) and her dogs, who we referred to as her ‘velcro’dogs as they were always glued to her side. Mom loved to share stories of growing up in Vancouver with her mom and her sister Kater, who were her best friends. Mom leaves behind a legacy of love and lots of wonderful memories and will be deeply missed by her kids Celeste (Darrell), Alana (Michael),Trevor (Laura) and Sylena (Ken), her many grandkids, great grandkids, extended family, and all the friends who became part of our lives thanks to her. Even though mom is no longer with us, her feisty spirit and the love she had for her family will stay in our hearts forever.
