Kristine Jane Jahelka

Kristine (Nana Kris) Jane Jahelka (nee Johnson) left a huge hole in the hearts of many when she left this world on July 21, 2013, aft er her short, yet incredibly courageous battle with cancer. Kris was born on July 26, 1940 in Edmonton, Alberta. She was raised in Three Hills, met the love of her life, Roy, in Canmore, Alberta, was a young bride and was blessed with four children. Roy served in the Army, so they lived in a number of different places including Germany, Quebec, and Chilliwack, BC. She owned and operated Kriska Hair Care in Fort McMurray for seven years. Kris and Roy retired to ‘the hill’ above Okanagan Lake in 1993 where they shared their retirement years with many dear friends whom they called family. They enjoyed many summers of fun and sunshine with family and friends at the family cabin on the lake. Kris was known for her warm hugs and generous hospitality to all. She loved to laugh. When she went to meet her Creator, she was surrounded by the love of her husband, Roy Jahelka; their four children: Deborah (Lionel Goertzen), Thomas ( Marcene Makovee ), Edward (Diana Agnew), and William ( Gwen Shank ); their eleven grandchildren ( Nana’s pride and joy); and one great grandson on the way. She also leaves to mourn: her sister, Judy (Jim) Chapman, brother, George Johnson, and sisters-in-law: Elfie Kendall, Betty (Leo) Vanderzide, and Linda (Gerry) Lalonde; and numerous friends and relatives. She was predeceased by her brother, James Kendall.

The family extends a huge thank you to the staff of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, and the many friends and relatives who have shown their love and support through this most difficult journey.

The celebration of Kris’ life will be held at the Schubert Centre (3035-35 Street, Vernon) on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 2 p.m with Deacon Pat Woo officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Kristine may be made to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation (palliative care).
