Maria MacKintosh

Maria Mackintosh, also lovingly known as Mary, passed away at the age of 92. Born in Holland, Mary came to Canada at the age of 23 and eventually made her home in Vernon, B.C. Along the way, she built a life filled with family, friendships, adventure, and plenty of stories. Maria was predeceased by her first husband Leen Dykhuizen father of her 3 children Helena (late husband Rick), Jack (Lisa) and Inga. Maria was also predeceased by her second husband Peter Mackintosh. Maria’s family grew throughout her life and through each chapter of her journey. She was deeply loved by the many people she welcomed into her heart through marriage and family. She embraced these extended and adopted family members as her own, creating bonds that went far beyond blood. Each family she became part of added new people, stories, laughter, and memories to her life. She was also an Oma to her many grandchildren and great children who brought her much joy. Maria was predeceased by her three sisters, one of whom was her twin. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her friend and companion Dave King. Maria loved camping, travelling, and, most of all, people. She was social, outgoing, and rarely happier than when she was surrounded by people. And somewhere, we like to think Maria is still dressed up, smiling, and dancing to her favourite tunes.

As per Maria’s request there will be no service. The family will be gathering in the spring to gather her life. In lieu of flowers, donations would be graciously accepted to the North Okanagan Hospice Society.
