
Patrick passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Born June 1, 1928 on the family farm at Beiseker, AB, Pat was the sixth child of Edward and Frances Hagel. After completing his education he lived in Beiseker and ran the family farm. Pat also had careers selling insurance with Alberta Hail and Crop Insurance and real estate with P. J. Toole and Cote. In 1979, Pat retired to Vernon, BC with his family, wife Jean and daughters Margaret, Ann, and Patricia. There he became a proud and active member of Knights of Columbus and St. James Parish. Pat brought his farmer’s ingenuity into retirement and was always trying to come up with a unique fix to daily matters. Pat always enjoyed his visits with family and friends.
Pat is survived by his loving wife, Jean, and three daughters: Margaret, Ann, and Trish (Paul) and two grandsons, Nathan and Jacob. He is also survived by his sister Helen Armitage; and brothers, Rev. Jim Hagel, Leonard (Lucille) and Donald as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by his parents Edward and Frances Hagel; his siblings, Mary (John) , Louis (Anna Mary), Ed (Julia), Francis, Raymond (Eva), Selma, and Rev. Martin Hagel; and his two brothers-in-law, Glen Armitage and Don Morrow. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers on Wednesday, January 15 at 5:00 p. m. at St. James Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be recited there on Thursday, January 16 at 11:00 a.m.
A special thank you to Dr. Alfred Chan, Dr. Alison Pontifax, Dr. Lavoie, and the staff from Interior Health and We Care for their compassion and care. A heartfelt thank you to the staff and management of Columbus Court for their support, kindness, and generosity to the family. Pat especially appreciated the visits and prayers offered by Father Dale Normandeau, Deacon Paul Murphy and many friends and family.
