Robert Freeman Fulthorpe

13 April, 195528 March, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Fulthorpe. Rob is survived by his wife, Donna Marie, mother, Margaret Fulthorpe, Jim and Marian Hamilton, three children, Christine, Robert (Jaimie), Stewart (Kelsey) and grandchildren Kloey, and Easton.

Rob grew up as a Winnipeg boy in Charleswood with his brother, Joe (Anna) Fulthorpe, and sister, Leslie (Vaughan) Alexander, Alana, Steven (Courtney), Braden and extended family including many close cousins. Rob spent his youth at Malachi, ON where he was devoted to fishing, and the family cottage.

After graduating from University of Manitoba, Rob moved to Vancouver in 1980. He began his career with Ford Credit later transitioning to Scotiabank where he was a proud employee of thirty years working as a Branch Manager in Victoria, Smithers, and Vernon. Gregarious and dedicated, he effortlessly forged meaningful relationships with his customers and employees. Rob was a generous mentor to his staff, and developed lasting friendships with many of his peers.

After retiring in 2015, Rob and Donna were committed to their love of the outdoors and camping. They enjoyed time together at Mabel Lake, Hay River, and their favorite spot, Trout Lake. Rob and Donna spent recent winters away with their good friends in Mexico. Rob enjoyed learning and practicing Spanish. He loved to play crib, passing his expertise onto his daughter Christine who, thankfully, learned how to play like her Daddy.

Rob coached his sons in minor hockey and was a most dedicated Winnipeg Jets fan. He enjoyed playing with the Vernon Moonshiners for several years, he was an avid golfer, a skilled fisherman and a member of the Smithers Kinsmen Club.

Rob will be missed dearly and remembered as a caring son, brother, a loving father, grandfather, dear friend, and a devoted husband. We will always remember his sparkling blue eyes, his gentle and kind manner, how he always put others before himself, and his loving heart.

A private funeral will be held at a later date.

In memory of Rob, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

My heart breaks for all of you, the loss of someone so special is beyond comprehension. I feel so blessed to have known Rob as a friend and boss. His kindness and compassion was remarkable and I have never forgotten his support. He was the first person to put a bug in my ear that I could be a branch manager, no one else had ever seen me that way, his belief in me gave me the confidence I needed to succeed. As a family man, there have been few like Rob, I think of us all going to Lake Cowichan in the old "family wagon" the drive to the lake alone was a highlight. I won't say much more but this, you Donna, Rob, Stew and Christine and all your family were his true source of joy you could tell by the way his face lit up when he spoke of you all. Sending you much love and prayers. Colleen

It saddens me to hear this devastating news. While I did not know the family, I knew Rob for many years as a colleague in the Bank. Rob always made time to talk. He was a kind man who always had a smile. When he spoke up, people stopped and listened. He brought great value to the team as a leader and a mentor. He was a great man all round. My condolences to the family. Please know that Rob left one heck of an impression to so many people. Taken far to young.
