It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Robert “Bob” George Thompson of Vernon, BC. Surrounded by his loving family, he passed on June 12, 2026 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born in Montreal on April 13, 1951 and he graduated from McGill university with a degree in medicine. It was his passion for the Rockies that took him to Calgary to pursue his career as a practicing physician in gastroenterology. After retiring, Bob moved to Vernon to explore new trails and be closer to his outdoor pursuits.
Bob loved the outdoors and developed a passion for mountain climbing, hiking, all forms of skiing, cycling, running and planning his next adventure. Through his sports and outdoor activities, Bob developed many close and long lasting friendships. He was also an avid reader, continually learning and expanding his knowledge and beliefs.
Though known for his many accomplishments and adventures, Bob was first and foremost devoted to his family. He pursued every aspect of life — from medicine and athletics to friendship and family — with curiosity, determination, and a commitment to excellence.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Danusia, his children Alison (Johnny), Natalie (Stefan) and Alex (Joy), his step children Robert (Jacqueline) and Monica (Brad), 5 grandchildren and siblings Brenda (Zach), Bill (Sue) and Nancy (Dave).
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
