Winston Jesse Bargery passed away peacefully in Armstrong, BC, on June 8th, 2026 at the age of 85. Born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland on April 16th, 1941, Winston spent his entire working life working on, building and maintaining roads in remote parts of the country. He began his career working as an instrument person and road surveyor in the late 1950’s in rural Newfoundland before quickly becoming a project manager for new road construction. Winston’s career took him all over the island of Newfoundland, often to small, remote towns in need of new roads. In 1978, he accepted a new challenge and moved to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories to work for the Department of Public Works and Highways working in communities across the NWT and present-day Nunavut. In 1982, Winston moved to Alberta, finishing his career working in the Edson and Hinton areas. Winston and his wife, Mary, retired to Vernon in 2012. A soft-spoken man, Winston loved to meet and chat new people. Along with his wife, Mary, they operated a very popular bed and breakfast in Hinton, AB for many years often hosting people from all over the world. They often kept in touch with the people that stayed at their B&B, and even visited some on their many trips overseas. Winston and Mary loved to travel and when they weren’t on an adventure, they could often be found planning their next one. Winston and Mary were also avid dancers and, in their retirement years, would be out dancing at various places across Vernon. Winston is survived by his loving wife Mary, sons Richard (Donna), Timothy and Kenneth (Jane) and his stepchildren Tim and Caroline (Rob), and his sister Jean and brother Allan. A memorial service to celebrate Winston’s life will be held in Hinton, AB, at a later date.
