Wray Benson Finlay

On February 14, 2019, after 86 well-lived years, our Husband, Father, Brother-In-Law, Uncle and Friend, Wray Finlay, passed away after a short time with cancer.

Born with his twin, Ross, on December 20, 1932, and raised in Ontario, Wray was the last surviving sibling in his family of 5 sisters and 7 brothers.

Wray served in Korea with the P.P.C.L.I., and after his return, he was stationed in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. While there, he met his ‘Future’, Anita Cant. They married on March 12, 1955, and spent their early years of marriage in Ontario and Saskatchewan before heading west to BC. Wray embraced new opportunities, and always made making life better for his family his main priority. Wray and Anita had so many great adventures in their life together toward that goal.

Wray leaves behind, to miss him very much, his Wife and Best Friend of 64 years, Anita, his Son Brian, his Daughter Judy and Son-in-law Kevin. Also missing Wray will be his extended family on both his and Anita’s side. He will be remembered by a great group of friends, and was nick-named by some affectionately as “The Fin”. As one friend said, ’The world lost a great guy. And a great jokester!” One golfing buddy reminded us of the water on #17 on The Ridge at Predator Ridge they called Finlay Bay because so many of Wray’s drives ended up there.

Wray and Anita enjoyed many fun times, together with friends, golfing at Predator Ridge when at home, and winters golfing at Black Lake, California, and then in Indio, California.

Wray’s family would like to extend special thank-you to Dr. Gavin Smart for his years of care, and especially in these recent weeks, and to our special group of nurses at VJH for helping us through the last two weeks we had together.

A Celebration of Wray’s life will take place in the Spring.

Sorry to hear of Wray’s journey to the otherside. Condolences to his Anita and their extended gene pool.
Wray was always a delightful addition to the golfing group at Predator Ridge.
I enjoyed his stories of the local snow pack readings each year and our lake front labour’s of love over the years.

Russell Finlay

My name is Russell Finlay, member of the Don and Elizabeth Finlay family and now living in Newfoundland, We were so sorry to hear of Uncle Wray’s passing, our family attended the Finlay family reunion in 2005 and became very fond of Uncle Wray, my brother Wayne has been in contact and spoke to uncle Wray several times since the reunion, he was the only member of the family that recognized us as part of the Finlay family and we cherished him for that. We all looked forward to meeting him again one day, he was such a gentle man and was certainly the highlight of the reunion for our family.
Please accept our sincere condolences to his family, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
