Barbara Jean Fortkamp

Barbara Jean (Smith) Fortkamp, 84 of Celina, Ohio, passed away on Sunday February 8, 2026 at 3:00 AM at Celina Manor, Celina, Ohio. Barbara was born April 27, 1941, in Versailles, Ohio, the daughter of the late Edgar and Evelyn (York) Smith.

Barbara was a homemaker and worked at Hemmelgarn Eggs, Whirlpool, and Copeland in Sidney. She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed baking.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents.

Barbara is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Colleen and Greg Post, and Carrie and Doug Niekamp,; her grandchildren, Gregory (Megan) Post, Carissa (Caleb) Schemmel, Caleb Post, and Calli Post; her great grandchildren, Eli, Noah, Liam, and Gabriel Schemmel, Levi, Blake, and Brooks Post; her siblings, Carolyn Beck, Bill (Carol) Smith, Marlene (Rick) Froning, Wanda Frilling, Peggy Weigel. Mike Smith, Pat (Rhonda) Smith, and Gary (Jane) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday February 13, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Denis Catholic Church, 14 East Wood Street, Versailles, Ohio with Rev. Fr. Ned Brown Celebrant. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Valbert Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday February 12, 2026, and from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Friday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or EverHeart Hospice.
