Born in London, England on December 16, 1922 to Anne and Thomas Marling. Anne excelled at her school work and, upon graduation, went to work as an industrial materials costing accountant. This soon led into her war work, all through the “Blitz”, as an air warden. After her work day, while on a train trip to Waterloo in 1942, she met a young Canadian soldier – Jack – and married him on September 12, 1944.
After the war, Anne flew with two other war brides to Canada in December 1945. She was initiated into Canadian winters in Assiniboia and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and soon became mother to Catherine Anne. After Jack completed his chartered accountant designation, they moved to Victoria, where Wendy Elizabeth and John Lindsay soon followed. Eventually, they transferred to Ottawa and made a home for their young family. They were soon joined by Jeffery Allan and spent almost twenty years in that home. After a transfer to London, Ontario, Anne and Jack retired back to her beloved Victoria, where she always wanted to be.
Anne was always a “people person”, right to the end of her days. She loved her dinner & dance parties, bridge clubs, newcomers meetings and war brides gatherings, and making a beautiful home. Anne adored and cherished her extended family. The family grew over the years to become Cathy & Ron and grandsons Steven (Janice) Christopher & Bridget, and great grandson Brendan Lemieux, Wendy & Tim Brown, along with granddaughter Robyn, John & Carole and grandson James. Anne was proud of every one of them and loved them all dearly. She liked to tell her family that, along with raising them and keeping a home for them, she was busy keeping her husband Jack on track to become Assistant Deputy Minister of Taxation, and that it was her budgeting and saving that kept the food on the table through the lean years.
Anne was predeceased by her parents and siblings, as well as son, Jeff. She leaves behind to celebrate her life and to grieve their loss her family & relatives in Canada, USA and England, as well as friends across Canada and throughout the world. Her husband, Jack, after almost 72 years of marriage, will miss her every day most of all. Together, they were a loving team, a great example of patience and fortitude, world travelers and dance partners.
Wife, mother, friend, family. What can we say but thank you, Anne, and rest in peace until we see you again.
