Barry spent his working life as an employee of the BC Liquor Board, working in Victoria liquor stores including Broadmead, Borden St, Nooka Court and the Distribution Centre. His first job out of High School was at the Oakcrest Grocery store on Quadra. Beyond his career, he travelled to Britain, Europe, Russia, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, drove the Dawson City- Inuvik Highway, took a Caribbean Windjammer Cruise, drove across the United States, and spent many summers in the Banff & Jasper area. He also enjoyed downhill skiing at Mt. Washington and cycling the Galloping Goose Bike Trail. Growing up, he was our family historian. He could recall dates, times and places to the minute detail. He was well known for his love of cats and his hatred of all barking dogs. He was a kind and gentle soul and read extensively on topics on conspiracy theories, UFOs, space and aircraft. He enjoyed his time with the Squadron 676 Air Cadets which took him to Penhold, Alberta and having his first flight in a glider.
In 2022, he experienced some heart issues but bounced back and was soon out cycling again. He had his first stroke in May 2024 and was adjusting until he had his second stroke in August 2025, which sadly took a lot of our Barry away. And after his third stroke in November 2025, he lost almost all of what was left. Waiting in hospital 7 months for a long-term care bed, he was finally transferred to Skyview, at the Gorge Road Health Centre. The move was very traumatic for Barry and within 9 days he passed.
Barry leaves behind his brother Ken, sister-in-law Olga, nephew Eric (Brian), niece Arianna (Kelly), sister Joan and Cousin Barb (Greg).
The family wishes to thank both the staff of the Victoria General Hospital 7th floor Side B, and to the Victoria Stroke Recovery Association for their care and compassion.
Upon Barry’s wishes, there will no be service.
