She was born in Manchester, England on March 10, 1928 to Alex and May Bagshaw. Betty had two older siblings, brother Alan and sister Elsie.
As a young woman, Betty trained to be a seamstress or dressmaker as she preferred to be known. She was self-employed until meeting Harold Wesley (Wes) Marshall while he was on furlough from Germany, where he was stationed with the PPCLI. They were married on November 6, 1954 in Manchester then returned to Germany to finish Wes’s tour of duty.
After Wes was stationed in Calgary, Alberta, Betty continued in her trade, sewing clothing for clients from their home in the neighborhood of Forest Lawn. Betty and Wes started a family, having three children; Sandra, David and Pamela.
In 1973 Betty followed a dream of being a care-giver by working in a seniors’ home, giving loving care to frail seniors. When Wes retired from his position with the Calgary School Board they decided to move to Cobble Hill, BC to be closer to their grown children. Betty and Wes took great delight in the arrival of their three grandchildren, Samantha, Sean and Liam. Nothing made them happier than watching soccer games, dance recitals and music performances. Betty’s family meant everything to her.
Betty is survived by her three children and three grandchildren. She lost her beloved Wes one and a half years ago. Now, forever together for eternity.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Broadmead Veterans Memorial Lodge for the care and kindness they’ve shown to Betty in her final months. A Celebration of Life will be held there at a later date
