David was born in Montreal on June 15 1943. He worked various labour jobs and truck driving. In 1996 he followed his sister Donna and brother Norman out to Victoria. After living in the big city of Montreal, he embraced Victoria, with its Ocean and nearby beaches. He often said he had seen more of B.C. than he had of his home province of Quebec. His particular favourites were Nelson and area, Barkerville, Alert Bay and trips on the MV Uchuck III in Nootka Sound.
In Victoria he also enjoyed the company of his brother-in-laws family, the Pattersons, who all warmly welcomed him as one of their own.
David missed his brother, and flat mate Norman who passed away in May 2025. However he was lucky to have such kind and caring neighbours, especially the manager of the building, Devon, a friend and support who both David and I depended on when needing extra help and someone to talk to.
He was a life long avid reader, mostly non-fiction World War II in Europe and Russia, but he was curious about many topics and the lives of interesting people. He also enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Many people involved in David’s care over the past few years have commented on his sense of humour and pleasant disposition. David and I (Donna) were so grateful for all the attention and support he received in the last years of his life, from the nurses and doctors at VGH and RJH and from VIHA Community Care, Esquimalt/Westshore.
David is survived by his sisters Dolores, & Donna (James Patterson) and many nieces and nephews.
He will be missed.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation.
A small family gathering will be held at a later date.
