Diane was an intelligent, talented, vibrant woman, always seeking and embracing new experiences. She was born in Fort Nelson BC and spent her early years in Hay River NWT, Leduc AB and Edmonton AB. As a young adult she moved to Leeds England to complete a degree in Creative Writing, and moved around before making Victoria her home.
Diane had a deep love of travel and adventure and lived and worked in England, Australia, and Dominican Republic. She travelled extensively with friends and family, accepting everyone as they were, and making friendships easily.
Diane was a woman of remarkable creativity and many interests.
She was a talented singer and she loved performing. She formed bands in Australia and Victoria, frequently sat in with local artists, and could often be found at Karaoke. She also hosted a local Trivia night every Tuesday, and played with her own team or on others.
Diane was a fabulous cook who loved good food and entertaining. She took great pleasure in preparing meals with, and for, friends and liked nothing better than feeding people well, while enjoying music, conversation, and laughter.
Diane did so much in her 40 years. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis as a young adult, and it was only in the last few years of her life that she struggled with her mental health. Her family wishes to acknowledge, with deep gratitude, that during that difficult period, her extensive circle of friends provided her with tremendous love and support. Many of those same friends have continued to support her mother and family in the aftermath of Diane’s death.
Diane had an especially close and loving relationship with her mother, Fran. They were deeply connected, and Diane shared her life with her mother in a way that was rare and precious. She confided in Fran about everything—her joys, her worries, her adventures, her frustrations, and the everyday details of her life. Fran was not only Diane’s mother, but also someone she trusted completely and with whom she shared an extraordinary bond. Their relationship was a central part of both their lives.
Family was deeply meaningful to Diane. On her 40th birthday, she was given a family heirloom ring, which she wore every day. The ring held special significance for her, particularly following the recent death of her maternal grandmother. It was a tangible connection to her family and to the generations of strong women who came before her.
Diane was a beautiful woman with a presence that was difficult to ignore. She was the kind of person who could walk into a room and immediately draw attention. She had an individuality, energy, and vitality that stayed with people.
She will be remembered for her music and singing, her writing, her love of travel, her wonderful cooking, her ability to bring people together, and the many friendships she treasured. She will be remembered for the adventures, meals, music, laughter, and stories she shared with the people she loved.
Diane’s life was far too short, but it was rich with creativity, connection, adventure, and friendship. She is survived by everyone who loved her deeply; a community of people whose lives were changed simply by having known her. She will be profoundly missed.
